Matthew 21:13 ERV
Jesus said to them, "The Scriptures say, 'My Temple will be called a house of prayer.'

Matthew 6:6 ERV
But when you pray, you should go into your room and close the door. Then pray to your Father. He is there in that private place. He can see what is done in private, and he will reward you.

Matthew 18:19-20 ERV
… if two of you on earth agree on anything you pray for, my Father in heaven will do what you ask.  20Yes, if two or three people are together believing in me, I am there with them."

Matthew 7:7-8 AMP
"Ask and keep on asking and it will be given to you; seek and keep on seeking and you will find; knock and keep on knocking and the door will be opened to you.  8For everyone who keeps on asking receives, and he who keeps on seeking finds, and to him who keeps on knocking, it will be opened.

James 4:2-3 AMPC
You are jealous and covet [what others have] and your desires go unfulfilled; [so] you become murderers. [To hate is to murder as far as your hearts are concerned.] You burn with envy and anger and are not able to obtain [the gratification, the contentment, and the happiness that you seek], so you fight and war. You do not have, because you do not ask God. 3[Or] you do ask [God for them] and yet fail to receive, because you ask with wrong purpose and evil, selfish motives. Your intention is [when you get what you desire] to spend it in sensual pleasures.

Matthew 6:9-10 NIV
"When you pray, pray like this: "'Our Father in heaven …  10let your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

CONSIDER

• According to these verses, how, when and where should we pray?

• How does God respond to our prayers?   What determines how he responds?

• Jesus quoted the Old Testament Scripture, “My Temple will be called a house of prayer.”  How does this apply to the local church today?

PRAY

1. Pray for yourself and our church – that God would move in our hearts to give us a great desire, burden for and obedience in prayer.

2. Pray that our church would grow into a true “house of prayer.”

3. Pray that we might always ask and God might always answer our prayers in the manner that brings Him the greatest glory.
